For the climate and for their daughters’ education, Mary, Marguerite and Alberta lived in Portland, Oregon from 1910 to 1934 with Mr. Bair commuting regularly. There the Bair ladies had an active social life and Marguerite started to collect antiques. When Charlie Bair was 77, he moved the family back to Montana to the ranch along the Musselshell River in Martinsdale.
The home was modernized and partially remodeled to house the many antiques collected during the Bair family’s Portland years. Several additions were added in the 1960s and 1970s to accommodate the antiques collected by Alberta and Marguerite Bair during the many trips they took to Europe and New York starting in 1955.
